On September 26-29, thirteen Chardonnay Travelers’ RVs gathered at the Durango RV Resort in Red Bluff for
a fun weekend of sharing friendship, good food, and service to others.  Durango is a fairly new and very
attractive park located along the Sacramento River just off Highway 5.  After getting settled, we enjoyed the
beautiful clubhouse during our Social Hour, while munching on hearty hors d’ oeuvres brought by members.
The next morning, Sandy Schipper and Margo Berenberg led the ladies in a Sewing Bee for our Community
Service Project, making soft, colorful pillowcases for hospitalized Veterans.  All in all, 50 pillowcases were
made, including those sent in by members unable to attend the outing.  Sandy hand-stitched a label into every
pillowcase, thanking each Veteran for their service.   After the outing, the pillowcases were delivered to the
Yountville Veterans’ Home.
Our group took an interesting tour of the Lucero Olive Oil Company in the nearby town of Corning on Friday
afternoon, followed by a trip to the quilt shop for some of the ladies.  The following day members also toured
the Kelly-Griggs Historical Museum in Red Bluff.  Our hosts, the Schippers and Berenbergs, had compiled a list
of other activities available to do on our own time, which included the following: Tehama District Fair, Abbey
of New Clairvaux Winery, Sundial Bridge in Redding, Shasta Outlet Mall, Rolling Hills Casino, and Bocce Ball
or swimming at the resort.
And of course we ate well throughout the weekend!  We enjoyed dinner at the nearby Green Barn Steakhouse
on Friday, and our hosts outdid themselves cooking a delicious Pork Loin dinner with all the trimmings on
Saturday.  Following dinner on both nights, members were invited to share whatever personal history
anecdotes they chose, such as family traditions/lore, funny stories, an embarrassing moment.  Our hosts
wisely set a time limit of 5 minutes per rig, as at our ages, there is much personal history to share!  It was fun
to hear the stories, and a wonderful way to know our club friends just a little bit better.
