Six Chardonnay Travelers gathered in mid-January to take in one of the last
performances of the Fabulous Palm Springs Follies, which will close at the end of this
season. It was an excellent production, full of nostalgia. While our group was waiting to
enter the theater, Don & Judy Walton shared a little nostalgia of their own: they had
gone to a movie in the same theater on their honeymoon, 57 years ago last December!
From there, the group traveled together to Blythe to spend 4 days enjoying the fantastic
music, fellowship, great potlucks, and dry-camping at the Fairgrounds during the Blythe
Bluegrass Festival. After the festival, we moved to Quartzsite, AZ, for 3 more days of dry-
camping in the desert about 6 miles south of town.
Then, on January 23-26, a total of 9 Chardonnay RVs met at the beautiful Golden Palms
RV Resort in Hemet for the State WIT outing. Gene Mullen, Sue Chambers, and Pat
Winn played in the golf tournament, coming in Third. Bob Anderson and Mark Powers
won ribbons for coming in First and Second in the Cavalcade of Games.
The Executive Board put on a delicious dinner catered by Panda Express on Thursday.
Friday’s chicken dinner provided by SkyMed was also excellent. 5 Star Winnebagos did
a terrific hot breakfast Saturday morning, and the San Diego Rolling Homes fixed a
wonderful Ziti Casserole/salad dinner that evening. Jo Macaluso had an entry in the Pie-
making Contest, and we were able to sample her yummy pie for dessert, long with the ice
cream provided to all.
At our Chapter meeting on Friday, it was decided that, the Chardonnays will do the
Saturday night dinner at the April State WIT outing at the Lodi Fairgrounds. The theme
for that event is “April in Paris” and Joe Macaluso had some French recipes that sounded
good and do-able for a large group.
